When Should I Call an Emergency Dentist?

  • Severe or persistent toothache
  • Broken, cracked or chipped tooth
  • Lost filling Lost crown
  • Dental swelling pain when biting or chewing
  • Suspected dental infection
  • Dental trauma
  • Another sudden dental problem

If you are unsure whether your situation needs urgent attention, call us and describe your symptoms.

What Should I Do for a Severe Toothache?

A toothache may be related to decay, infection, a cracked tooth, a damaged restoration, gum problems or inflammation involving the inside of the tooth. An examination and appropriate X-rays or imaging may be needed to determine the cause.

Do I Need a Root Canal?

Not every toothache requires root canal treatment. If the tissue inside a tooth becomes inflamed or infected, root canal treatment may sometimes be recommended to help save the tooth. Your dentist will evaluate the tooth and discuss appropriate options.

What If I Break a Tooth?

Contact us even if the tooth is not painful. A fracture can weaken the remaining tooth structure. Treatment depends on the location and extent of the damage and may include a filling, crown, root canal treatrnent or another procedure based on the diagnosis.

What If My Crown or Filling Comes Out?

Contact our office. If a crown comes off, save it if possible and avoid chewing on the affected tooth. Do not use household glue to permanently reattach a crown. Your dentist will evaluate the tooth and determine the appropriate treatment.

What If My Face or Mouth Is Swollen?

Dental swelling can be associated wifi infection and should be evaluated promptly. If swelling is affecting your ability to breathe or swallow, seek emergency medical attention immediately.

What About Wisdom Tooth Pain?

Dentistry of South Jersey can evaluate wisdom-tooth pain or swelling and determine the appropriate next step. Dentistry of South Jersey does not extract wisdom teeth. If wisdom-tooth extraction is required, the patient can be referred appropriately.

Can New Patients Call With a Dental Emergency?
